What Are the Dangerous Goods Classifications?

Dangerous goods classification is described as goods that are inherently poisonous in nature and can't be transported in a secure manner. Classification of dangerous goods by IATA is based on the security features of the goods, their suitability for managing, their effect on public security and their style of transportability. The classification is further subdivided into nine categories based on the kind of risk products or materials present:
Explosive goods classifications are divided into nine categories depending upon the characteristics of the item which could lead to its explosion. Gas: Gases include chlorotic and oxalic acid, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen, which can explode when subjected to elevated temperatures. Flammables: Flammables include acetylene, ethylenediamine, hydrogen cyanide, sulfuric acid, acetone, nitroglycerin, nitrogen trifluoride, and potassium chlorate. Flammables may also include hydrocarbons, oxidizing agents, corrosive solvents, phosphorous vapors, nitrogen dioxide, nitrous oxide and xenon.
There is also the Dangerous Goods Classification List (DMCL). Which can be a list of hazardous goods supplied for export and import functions under the United States Trade Act of 1970. The DMCL Includes the categories of hazardous materials listed by the United States Department of State.
Another helpful classification is that the Transport and Security classification of merchandise (TSGC), that comprises four main classes of goods utilized for the transportation of goods. These include the goods subject to the TCPR, TSCA, TGA and EPA.
Another classification is that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), that is responsible for the regulation of the transport of dangerous goods by sea and air. The ICAO Classification of Dangerous Goods (CDG) defines the classification of cargo or aircraft-carrying goods, the identification of items that needs to be announced on shipping documents, and the procedures for reporting freight offenses. And violations of transport laws. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is responsible for setting federal safety guidelines to reduce the dangers of goods being sent by air.
There are also other organizations such as the US-Australia-NZ Group of Specialized Experts (USGSE) and the United States Board for Laboratory Services (USBLOS) offering information on different hazardous materials and their own classification. The CDG supplies more detailed information regarding international classification compared to the other two groups.
